Our story

A growing room for the strange and beautiful.

La Casa Del Amor began as a single window of plants in Albany and grew into a studio devoted to slow, living art.

The studio

Albany, New York

La Casa Del Amor is Heather Close's growing room and plant studio. Rooted in centuries-old Japanese botanical traditions, we hand-sculpt structural kokedamas, mount striking exotic varieties, and curate unique living decor.

We create living pieces with patience, curiosity, and a deep love for the strange and beautiful.

A note for growing things

Bloom without asking for permission.

Not everyone will understand your time, your choices, or the way you decided to grow. And that's all right.

There are stages where we need to stop fitting into other people's expectations and simply allow our own nature to appear.

Growing up takes courage. And blooming, sometimes, is just choosing to continue being who you are — entirely.

The craft

How we work

01

Kokedama

Literally “moss ball.” A Japanese tradition where a plant’s roots are wrapped in a clay-rich soil, sheathed in living moss, and bound with string — a garden without a pot.

02

Mounting

Epiphytes grow on trees in the wild. We mount them on oak, cork, and driftwood so they can live as they were meant to — as living sculpture.

03

Patience

Each piece rests in the growing room for weeks after it is made, rooting in and settling before it ever leaves the studio.
